Tartan Army doubles sales of George Burley’s
Scottish tie
Sales of a patriotic Scottish tie have more than doubled
since new Scotland manager George Burley was pictured
wearing one as he accepted the manager’s job (see
image at http://football.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/0,,2246766,00.html).
The blue silk tie covered in Scottish Saltires has
sold so well that the UK’s leading online tie
retailer TieWarehouse.co.uk
has run out.
It’s having emergency supplies delivered at the
end of the week to meet the demand by fans.
The website’s Gary Baker has never known so much
attention from footy fans.
“At Tie Warehouse we’re used to getting
attention for our ties,” he said. “They’ve
appeared in lots of TV programmes and in celebrity photos
wrapped round the necks of famous people.
“But this is the first time the attention is
around a football manager!
“With so many foreign footy managers around,
perhaps it’s the Tartan Army’s way of celebrating
such an open display of Scottishness.”
George Burley appeared at a press conference to announce
his appointment as Scotland manager last week.
He was widely pictured wearing a dark suit with the
silk Scottish tie.
Since then fan forums have been full of comment about
the tie and where to get it. Supplies at Tie Warehouse
quickly sold out.
You can view the tie and register to be notified when
it’s back in stock at http://www.tiewarehouse.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=24_37&products_id=1384.
